Brunfelsia americana, Linn. Habit dwarf, branches slender: Lvs. glabrous or nearly so; lamina elliptic-ovate, acute; petiole ½-1 in. long, stout: fls. solitary and axillary, or in terminal few-fld. clusters, pure white shading with age to pure yellow and sweetly scented, especially at night; petals obtuse; calyx green, campanulate teeth spreading, nearly equaling the length of the tube. Trop. Amer. B.M. 393.—Of very easy cult., and thriving and seeding freely under the conditions of an ordinary greenhouse. In Fla., grows 4-6 ft. high; the very fragrant fls. are much prized.<br />
