Terrestrial bromeliad. Gray-green leaves are triangular with spine-tips. Leaves are 1.5 - 6in (4-15cm). Yellow long-tubed flowers with green tips are 1.5 inches (4cm) long and come in summer.

==Cultivation==
Outdoors: Grow under full sun in soil of moderate fertility and excellent drainage.

Indoors: Grow under bright light in a bromeliad soil mix. Give moderate amount of water much of the year, but keep the plant nearly dry during winter. If temperature drops below 41F (5C), the plant becomes prone to root rot from sitting water. Low-nitrogen fertilizer can be given monthly from mid spring to late fall.

===Propagation===
Seeds should be planted in spring and kept at 81F (27C). Rosettes can be divided and rooted in spring or summer.

===Pests and diseases===
[[Mealybugs]] can be problematic during flowering period.
