It grows into a small round-headed tree, with handsome somewhat shining foliage. It thrives best in sandy loam and has proved fairly hardy in favorable positions at the Arnold Arboretum. Propagation is by seeds, also by root-cuttings and cuttings of ripened wood under glass. dulcis, Thunb. (H. acerba, Lindl. H. inaequalis, DC.). Japanese Raisin Tree.
