	Notospartium (name from Spartium or broom). Leguminosae. Two shrubs, leafless at maturity, with compressed pendulous branches, of New Zeal., one of them more or less planted in Great Britain. Fls. papilionaceous, rather small, in lateral racemes; calyx 5- toothed, campanulate; standard obovate or obcordate, clawed and somewhat reflexed; keel hatchet- shaped and obtuse; wings shorter than the keel, oblong, auricular at base; stamens 9 and 1: pod linear and many-jointed (and in this differing from Carmichaelia). N. Carmichaeliae, Hook. f. Pink Broom. Much-branched, to 10 ft. high, the branches glabrous and bearing alternate scales, the Lvs. (only on young plants) 1-foliolate and orbicular or obcordate: racemes 1-2 in. long, bearing pink fls.: pod about 1 in. long. S. Isl. of New Zeal~~. B.M. 6741. G.C. III. 42:146. Gn. 71, p. 428; 74, p. 143~~.—A rare and local plant in New Zeal., blooming there in summer (Dec.-Jan.).
