Reevesia (after John Reeves, an English resident of Canton, China, who &lt;br /&gt;
introduced many Chinese plants into England). Sterculiaceae. A genus of &lt;br /&gt;
3 species in China and Himalayas. Evergreen trees with alternate, &lt;br /&gt;
simple, entire lvs. 3-nerved at the base and with white or pink fls. in &lt;br /&gt;
dense terminal corymbs: calyx funnel-form-campanulate, 4-5-toothed; &lt;br /&gt;
petals 5, clawed; stamens adnate to the long gynophore, much exceeding &lt;br /&gt;
the petals, 15, forming a globose head; ovary 5-valved, seeds 2 in each &lt;br /&gt;
cell, compresse, winged. Little known in cult. and adapted only for &lt;br /&gt;
warmer temperate regions. Prop. probably by cuttings from half-ripened &lt;br /&gt;
wood. R. thyrsoidea, Lindl. Evergreen shrub: lvs. ovate-oblong to &lt;br /&gt;
oblong-lanceolate, glabrous, 2-5 in. long: fls. creamy white, &lt;br /&gt;
1/2in.across; gynophore 1/2-3/4in. long. China. B.R.1236. B.M. 4199. &lt;br /&gt;
F.S. 3:206. R. pubes-cens, Mast. Similar to the preceding: lvs. ovate &lt;br /&gt;
to ovate-oblong, subcordate to broadly cuneate at the base, brownish &lt;br /&gt;
tomentose beneath, 3-5 in. long: fls. somewhat larger, pink; gynophore &lt;br /&gt;
1 in. long. E. Himalaya, S. W. China. Recently intro.      Alfred &lt;br /&gt;
Rehder.&lt;br /&gt;
