Rhodosphaera (Greek, red and globe; referring to the reddish globose &lt;br /&gt;
fr.). Anacardiaceae. A tree from Austral., closely related to Rhus but &lt;br /&gt;
differing chiefly in the 10 stamens and in the very short free radicle &lt;br /&gt;
of the embryo: lvs. odd-pinnate, subcoriaceous: fls. &lt;br /&gt;
polygamo-dioecious, in terminal and axillary panicles, red; stamens 10; &lt;br /&gt;
styles 3, free: fr. a globose drupe. In its native country the wood is &lt;br /&gt;
esteemed for cabinetwork and used as a yellow dye and therefore called &lt;br /&gt;
&amp;quot;yellow-wood.&amp;quot; It is also a handsome foliage tree and is cult, in &lt;br /&gt;
Calif. The only species is R. rhodanthema, Engl. (Rhus rhodanthema. F. &lt;br /&gt;
Muell.). Evergreen tree to 60 or 70 ft., glabrous: lfts. 7-9, &lt;br /&gt;
short-stalked, oblong- ovate, obtusely short-acuminate, dark green and &lt;br /&gt;
lustrous above, lighter beneath, with tufts of hairs in the axils of &lt;br /&gt;
the veins, 2-2 1/2 in- long: panicles to 4 in. long; fls. small, 1/6in- &lt;br /&gt;
across, crimson or pink: fr. globose, reddish brown, 1/2in across. &lt;br /&gt;
