Tall tree, 25 ft. or more high, more or less branched: ribs 7-12, broad: spines 10-15: flowers purplish: fruits globular, covered with deciduous clusters of pines,edible.Commonly cultured in Trop. Ainer. for its fruits. It is especially highly prized in Mex. CH
