Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture

Sorbus folgneri, Rehd. (Micromeles Folgneri, Schneid. Pyrus Folgneri, Bean). Tree with spreading and arching branches: young branchlets tomentose: lvs. ovate to elliptic-ovate, acute or short-acuminate, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, finely serrate or on shoots doubly serrate and often slightly lobed, dark green and glabrous above, white-tomentose beneath, 2-3 in. long, with 8-9 pairs of veins: infl. about 4 in. across, tomentose, many-fld.; fls. 1/4 – 1/3 in. across; styles 3: fr. ovoid, red, about 1/2 in. long. May: fr. in Oct. Cent. China. Var. pendula, Rehd. (Pyrus Folgneri var. pendula, Veitch). Branches pendulous.—This is a very handsome and graceful species. CH
